About the Job
Chief Technology Officer (CTO)

Role Summary
We are looking for a Chief Technology Officer to lead the company’s R&D and technical development efforts for our BATS network coding technology. The CTO will be part of the senior management team and will provide leadership across applied research, protocol design, software architecture, SDLC practices, technical quality and engineering execution.

This role is intended for a technically deep leader with practical experience turning new technology into competitive software products. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with management responsibility for the R&D team. The CTO is expected to guide research direction, review technical implementation, oversee engineering execution, and help move the company from prototype-oriented development toward maintainable product engineering and commercially deployable products.

Technology Focus
Our core technology is based on the BATS coding library and BATS protocol. The CTO will lead the further development of BATS-related algorithms, protocol specifications, and software architecture for practical use cases in reliable data transport and networked systems.

The CTO will also investigate future applications of BATS technology in areas such as Internet transport, datacenter networking, SD-WAN, satellite communications, 6G-related networking, and other domains where network coding may provide practical benefits.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the technical development of BATS network coding technology.
  • Provide technical leadership to the development team, including architecture review, code review standards,    documentation standards, and technical decision-making.
  • Guide the productization of BATS technology from research prototypes into maintainable software products, libraries, and deployable systems.
  • Review Rust, C++, and networking-related implementation where required; prototype key technical ideas, when necessary, but not necessarily as a full-time production coder.
  • Lead the establishment of disciplined SDLC practices, including architecture review, code review, CI/CD quality gates, release discipline, and technical documentation.
  • Provide technical leadership in evaluating new use cases, technical feasibility, system performance, and practical deployment constraints for BATS technology.

Requirements:
  • Research Master’s or PhD degree in Information Engineering, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related discipline.
  • Good understanding of network coding or information theory concepts.
  • Relevant working experience in productizing a new technology, such as turning a research prototype into a commercial software product, SDK, library, deployable system, or customer-evaluable product.
  • Strong understanding of computer networking, transport protocols, network performance measurement, and practical system constraints.
  • Fluent written English is required.
  • Candidates should be able to communicate professionally in either spoken English or spoken Mandarin.

Work Environment:
  • Hong Kong-based role.
  • Full-time permanent position.
  • Salary commensurate with experience.
  • Visa sponsorship is available for suitable candidates.
  • The CTO will lead and manage the company’s R&D and engineering functions, working closely with the CEO, product, QA / compliance, and software development teams. Candidate Profile.

The ideal candidate is a technically strong R&D and engineering leader who can bridge applied research, engineering execution, and product development. Experience or familiarity with network coding, advanced transport protocols, communication systems, coding theory, or related areas is highly desirable. The candidate should be able to contribute to the evolution of BATS protocol and related technologies, while also leading the R&D team and providing the engineering judgment needed to turn research outputs into maintainable, secure, and commercially usable software products.
